Our Trip to Oman

We saw many unusual and interesting sights on our trip to Oman, including this man who served us a tamarind drink from the pot on his back. The seven hour drive to Muscat took us through Arabian desert and rocky mountains.
We saw camels walking by the roadside, as we cruised by on the excellent freeway. I hope the pictures I have blogged on this and the next page will tell the story. It was a wonderful trip.

Muscat, Oman

Nestled in a natural harbour, between the mountains, Muscat is a beautiful old town. We loved the white buildings.

Muscat

We tore ourselves away from the beach at the hotel and spent a day in Muscat. Historically it is well preserved, a lovely old town with new buildings kept similar to the old. No high rise here.

Shopping at the Souk

The Souks were full of treasures. Not Don's favourite thing to do, but I loved browsing through the stalls when we came across them.

Nizwa in Oman

Nizwa is a town nestled between the mountains. It has a historical fort which Don wanted to see so we stopped off on the way home.

A holiday by the beach

The Shangri-la Hotel at Muscat has it's own private beach. What a way to spend the day! Situated out of the town, it was a very relaxing place to stay.

The Shangri-la Hotel - Muscat

This was the view of the hotel grounds and beach from the balcony off our room. We didn't want to leave! See more of Oman on the next page.

Going to Muscat, we drove for hours on a very straight freeway through rough mountain countryside.

Pictures that make a memory

Love this picture which I took here in Abu Dhabi. You usually see something like this when you don't have your camera. Hoping to take some more pictures like this one, where you just capture something that reminds you forever of a certain place, when we visit Oman at the end of this week. We are driving for 6 hours and then we have four nights staying just out of Muscat. Should be able to get some great shots of the local historical attractions and scenery.

Another missionary in the family

Our niece Demi should be
arriving in the Temple
Square Mission today.
Her cheery smile will
welcome many people
to the Square over the
next 18 months.

Birthday Boys

Three little grandsons
are enjoying their
birthdays this week.

The youngest two are big Wiggles fans

so that had to be included in the

celebrations.

This young man is a big Star Wars fan,

just like his Daddy before him.

Checking Out The Emirates Palace Hotel

This will be a first for a Father's Day celebration for Don - going out for dinner on a Sunday and to the Emirates Palace Hotel. This hotel is amazing - opulence as only the Arabs can do it. At Ramadan they put on a special buffet dinner, known as an "Iftar" buffet. As Friday is the Sabbath here, we can go out to eat on Sunday. A large tent is erected in the beautiful grounds of the hotel, which overlook the Corniche (coastline). Afterwards there will be a light show.
